Advocate General Tamara Ćapeta visits the Law School as a David Edward Visiting Practitioner Fellow
20 March 2026
EVENT DETAILS:
The Edinburgh Law School was delighted to welcome Advocate General Tamara Ćapeta (Court of Justice of the European Union) as the latest holder of the Europa Institute’s David Edward Visiting Practitioner Fellowship.
As Sir David was also appointed to the Court directly from his university post (as the Salvesen Chair of European Institutions), we were especially glad to host Advocate General Ćapeta as this year’s Fellow for Law.
This scheme was established in 2024 in tribute to Professor Sir David Edward, Chair of the Institute and former UK Judge at the CJEU (1989-2004).
After first meeting informally with Sir David as well as staff and PhD researchers working on various projects under the wide umbrella of EU law, the Advocate General addressed a gathering of undergraduate and postgraduate students from both Law and SPS on the topic of “Values and Diversity before the Court of Justice of the EU”.
Her lecture provoked several incisive questions from the students, leading, in turn, to a wonderfully interactive discussion. Advocate General Ćapeta also offered some reflections on the nature of her current role in Luxembourg, including by comparing her practitioner role to life before her appointment as a professor of EU law at the University of Zagreb.
