David Edward Visiting Practitioner Fellowship announced
The Europa Institute establishes the David Edward Visiting Practitioner Fellowship
EVENT DETAILS:
The Europa Institute is delighted to announce the founding of the David Edward Visiting Practitioner Fellowship, in honour of our Chair, Professor Sir David Edward https://www.law.ed.ac.uk/people/professor-sir-david-edward
The Institute has invited practitioners working on the law and policy of the European Union to visit the University of Edinburgh for many years, especially to engage with our students in both the Law School and the School of Social and Political Science. We are now formalising that initiative in tribute to Sir David’s very special birthday and to his remarkable contribution to the Institute and the University over many decades.
From his time as an Advocate at the Scottish Bar before taking up the Salvesen Chair of European Institutions at the Edinburgh Law School, and then through his distinguished service at the Court of Justice of the European Union (as a Judge at the General Court from 1989-1992 and at the Court of Justice from 1992-2004), Sir David has always emphasised the blending of academic thinking and real-world implications.
To continue this approach to EU studies at the University of Edinburgh, the Institute will invite two visiting practitioners per academic year, to the School of Social and Political Science (Semester One) and the Law School (Semester Two), to bring to our staff and students their insights from the highest levels of EU practice and policymaking.
The inaugural David Edward Visiting Practitioner Fellow will visit the Law School in spring 2025, details to be announced soon.
Meanwhile, we wish the happiest of birthdays to our incomparable Chair!
